6 Budget-Friendly and Body-Boosting Fitness Apps to Download ASAP

In a world where cell phones are literally an extension of our dominant hand, there’s no denying that mobile apps have made every aspect of our lives a whole lot easier. From simple, everyday tasks to big picture planning, there’s literally an app for everything. And when it comes to fitness apps, the options are endless—you name it, an app guru developed it. So how do you decide which one you want?

Well, if you’re like us, storage on your phone is precious and usually running out when you need it most, which means you have to be pretty picky when choosing our next download. To help you out (because that’s what we love to do most!), we’ve put together a list of fitness app faves that we’re most excited about right now. You’ll find a little something for everyone on here, all of which are totally worthy of that 30MB (give or take) download.

Now, if only we could remember our app store password…

1.) All Trails

If you’re feeling more trail than treadmill today, you’ll love this app. With over 50,000+ different trails to explore for hiking, biking, and running, your workout will always stay interesting as you get your sweat on in the great outdoors. Other cool features include user reviews of each trail, the ability to save your favorite route, and record your activity. With the weather finally thawing a bit, it’s the perfect time to charge one of the new challenges on AllTrails—and yes, it has built in GPS, just in case your inner explorer gets the best of you. Download: iTunes or Google Play

2.) 30 Day Fitness Challenges

Working out should be all about your personal fitness style, abilities, and goals. That’s why we love this app—simple, yet effective. It lets you target areas that are important to you, and challenge yourself to complete 30 days of exercises that will help make the changes you want to see in your body. The daily reminders are a friendly way to encourage you to finish your reps for that day, because, let’s face it—sometimes we need that extra push. The best part is that you’re only competing against yourself, so the hard work and great results are because you did it for you, not to out-sweat anyone else. Download: iTunes or Google Play

3.) Pocket Yoga

It almost feels like you have your own personal yogi with this app on your phone. We all need a little more Zen and relaxation in our life, and Pocket Yoga makes it easy as can be, with over 200 poses and 27 different sessions for every level of yoga student. When your schedule’s too busy for a group class at the studio, this app steps in to work around your day; all you need is a quiet place to throw down your mat and clear your mind. For beginners, the Pose of the Day widget is the perfect feature to help you learn the terminology and make you feel more comfortable in classes; even mid-level students will love how it encourages them to try a pose they haven’t practiced in a while. NamaSTAY right at home and do my downward dog! Download: iTunes or Google Play

4.) CycleCast

As much as we love the new spin class trend, it doesn’t fit everyone’s budget—or schedule. With CycleCast, you get the studio experience of instructor-led exercises and bumping music that you can do on any indoor bike at any time, whether at home or at the gym. For those who love cycling, but aren’t much for the group workout, this is app is a game changer. And, like most of the apps on this list, it allows you to fit in your workout on your own time—because who loves rushing to work from the gym in the morning with wet hair? Not us. If you’re not convinced, try the app free for 30 days. You can then commit to the monthly cost of $9.99. Sure, seems expensive for an app—but think about how much you save compared to a cycling class. We prefer to sweat over our bikes, not over our budgets! Download: iTunes

5.) My Fitness Pal

Incorporating regular workouts into your daily routine is a huge part of healthy living (do we sound like a broken record yet?!); but that’s only half the battle. Your diet is just as important, and if diet and exercise don’t complement each other, all your hard work could be for not! Enter MyFitnessPal Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker. Think of it as your personal fitness diary. Record your food consumption as well as your fitness accomplishments to track your calorie burn right from your phone. The app’s massive food database and nutrition tracker makes understanding your diet a piece of cake (gluten-free, paleo cake, that is!), no matter what your weight or diet goals are. Fun feature: It also syncs with other fitness apps to help monitor your workout achievements. Download: iTunes or Google Play

6.) The Johnson & Johnson Official 7 Minute Workout

How often do we use time (or lack thereof) as an excuse to skip our workout? Some of us more than others, but we’ve all been there. Hey, it’s an easy out—who’s going to argue with a busy schedule? Well, Johnson & Johnson will. Their 7 Minute Workout app leaves you no excuse. We can ALL spare 7 minutes for a high-energy, super sweaty, butt-kicking, results-wielding workout—especially when you can do most of these anywhere. The app comes with 72 exercises and 22 different workouts of all skill levels, which leaves you with over 1000 variations to help you tone up. We’re big fans of the achievement notifications the app sends to help you stay on track—it almost feels like the adult version of a gold star next to your name. No matter how hectic life gets, it’s so important to prioritize yourself and your fitness needs, and this app makes it that much easier to do so. Download: iTunes or Google Play

So, you’ve tried all these apps and are still sweatin’ for more? Check out our other post on fitness apps totally worth the download!
