Prone Paddleboarding Picking Up the Pace

With 70 miles of pristine coastline, it’s no surprise that San Diego is a breeding ground for innovation in the water sports category. On any given day, onlookers can catch surfers, kite boarders, skim boarders and stand-up paddleboarders competing for waves. But there’s been something brewing in the briny sea that’s bringing these two worlds – surfing and stand-up paddleboarding – together as one. Intrigued? We were!

Perfect Bar Athlete Dustin Fiero, a legacy San Diego City lifeguard, big-wave surfer and, most recently, prone paddleboarder, is a information hub for this growing sport that shares deep roots amongst locals and old school waterman alike. We met up with Dustin just days before  The Catalina Classic — a 32-mile paddle-board race, now in its 40th year — to learn more about the sport and how it’s helped shape his passion for adventure in the water.
