We make it a point to read labels on both food and body care products. Did you ever think about what’s in your chewing gum? In fact, if you looked at the ingredients in many popular brands, you might be surprised.

Unlike synthetic gums that are made of plastics, Simply Gum uses natural chicle – the sap of the sapodilla tree – a sustainable, natural ingredient, and the original ingredient in chewing gum that all but disappeared on the market after World War II. Using chicle also means Simply Gum is biodegradable, which is something no other gum brand can brag about.
The concept for the brand came about through the realization that most gum on the market was full of artificial substances, including some of the same components found in car tires, plastic bottles and white glue. Many also used artificial sweeteners such as aspartame.
The FDA allows conventional gum brands to hide up to 80 synthetic ingredients in the catch all term “gum base” on the label. While there are a few gum brands in the U.S. market claiming to be “natural,” all of them include synthetics in their base. Simply Gum knew they could do better.
Their vegetable glycerin is from non-GMO sources of vegetable oil and sunflower lecithin is a non-GMO emulsifier, commonly found in chocolate, that keeps ingredients form separating. Handmade in NYC, Simply Gum is also gluten-free and vegan. Simply Gum even includes “after chew wraps,” so you have no excuse for sticking your used gum where it doesn’t belong. Jackpot!
It may take some getting used to – the gum itself doesn’t look like your perfectly pressed and processed stick. But, once you get past the appearance, it’s clear that Simply Gum’s natural take on an age-old favorite is subtler in flavor, a little less sweet, and far more authentic than any candy-colored pack you’ll find in the check-out line.
