Independence Day is a summertime favorite in San Diego, with a whole host of opportunities to see a patriotic display against the scenic water and palm tree silhouettes. Whether you’re looking for an all-day event with activities and cook-outs or a fabulous end-of-day fireworks spectacular, there are plenty of fun events to get your red, white & blue on.

Annual Big Bay Boom
- When: 9 p.m.
- Why go: By far, the largest display in San Diego county, The Big Bay Boom can be seen from four locations – Shelter Island, Harbor Island, North Embarcadero, Seaport Village/South Embarcadero. It’s an epic event for the city, bringing in upwards of 500,000 people. The show is choreographed in 4 barge locations around the bay, coordinated with a music broadcast.

Celebrate the Wonder, Sea World
- When: 10:10 p.m.
- Why go: Sea World extends their summer fireworks show, Celebrate the Wonder, for Independence Day. The well-known park offers rides, performances, and of course, marine life. For a full day of fun, Seaworld is a great spot for the family. The fireworks display is also viewable from Mission Bay Park, which is another alternative to the family fun – without the cost!

Ocean Beach San Diego Fireworks
- When: 9 p.m.
- Why go: Spend the fourth in the beachy-est of places. OB offers picnicking in the park, shopping along Newport Ave., and enjoying the sand and surf. Then, pull up a blanket and watch a fantastic fireworks show from the Ocean Beach Pier.

Coronado 4th of July Celebration
- When: 10 a.m. parade, 9 p.m. fireworks
- Why go: For a traditional patriotic celebration with a small town feel, Coronado is the place to be. Come out early for the legendary parade down Orange Ave and stay for the art fair and twilight concert at Spreckels Park. The celebration culminates with a fireworks display over Glorietta Bay.

Fourth of July Fireworks at La Jolla Cove
- When: 9 p.m.
- Why go: For a relaxing day at the beach, head over to La Jolla Shores. Take in beautiful coastline, and be sure to check out the free concert at Ellen Browning Scripps Park. Then see an amazing fireworks display with the picturesque backdrop.
